Summary

A black father and a white father join forces on a crusade for revenge against the people who murdered their gay sons, by S。A。 Crosby, the award-winning author of Blacktop Wasteland。

Ike Randolph has been out of jail for 15 years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time。 But a black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid。

The last thing he expects to hear is that his son, Isiah, has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek。 Isiah was a gay black man in the American South; Ike couldn’t bring himself to attend his son’s wedding。 Isiah was a man Ike never understood。 A boy he was never there for the way he should have been。

Derek’s father, Buddy Lee, is also suffering。 He’d barely spoken to his son in five years; he was as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal。 Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy。

Ike and Buddy Lee, two ex-cons with little else in common other than a criminal past and a love for their dead sons, band together in their desperate desire for revenge。 In their quest to do better for their sons in death than they did in life, alpha-males Ike and Buddy Lee will confront their own prejudices, about each other and their sons, as they rain down vengeance upon those who hurt their boys。

Provocative and fast-paced, Razorblade Tears is a story of bloody retribution, heartfelt change - and maybe even redemption。

Some books are so compelling that you’re willing to clean the bathrooms to keep listening。RAZORBLADE TEARS is one of those books。“A black father。 A white father。 Two murdered sons。 A quest for vengeance。” (@GoodReads) On the surface, it’s a story of revenge (“just a fancy word for hate”), but below that, you feel the regret, redemption, and unlikely friendship at its core。 In her review, Regina (@confettibookshelf) called it “Grit Lit,” which is a perfect genre description。It’s gritty, raw, grue Some books are so compelling that you’re willing to clean the bathrooms to keep listening。RAZORBLADE TEARS is one of those books。“A black father。 A white father。 Two murdered sons。 A quest for vengeance。” (@GoodReads) On the surface, it’s a story of revenge (“just a fancy word for hate”), but below that, you feel the regret, redemption, and unlikely friendship at its core。 In her review, Regina (@confettibookshelf) called it “Grit Lit,” which is a perfect genre description。It’s gritty, raw, gruesome in parts, incredibly violent, and full of slurs (racial and sexual orientation), but it’s moving, heartfelt, and insightful。 You see our two main characters come to terms with and overcome their inherent bias and prejudice throughout the book。 There are more metaphors than I typically want, but they seemed to suit the story and were often so creative I had to tip my hat (there’s a particularly good one about someone’s intestines that I won’t put here。 DM me if you want to discuss!)The plot throws you into the passenger seat and mashes down on the throttle。 I read this as an audiobook loan from my local library using the Libby app, and it was exceptional with Adam Lazarre-White’s throaty narration。 。。。more

Family /what's rightFamily is family no matter what the circumstances。 When sons were killed they needed to find answers。 Two fathers team together to find sons killers。 The odd couple and their quest for what is right is a page turner。 Enjoyed it immensely。 Family /what's rightFamily is family no matter what the circumstances。 When sons were killed they needed to find answers。 Two fathers team together to find sons killers。 The odd couple and their quest for what is right is a page turner。 Enjoyed it immensely。 。。。more

(7。7/10) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐Content warnings can be found hereRazorblade Tears reads like a Sons of Anarchy episode, and one towards the end of a season at that。 It is violent, hard, gritty, and comes with a slew of trigger warnings that I've done my best to provide through the link。I mostly had a very good time with this, mainly because of the pace it had and because I enjoy a violent revenge story。 I also found the two main characters interesting - both of them are raging assholes, in more ways than one, b (7。7/10) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐Content warnings can be found hereRazorblade Tears reads like a Sons of Anarchy episode, and one towards the end of a season at that。 It is violent, hard, gritty, and comes with a slew of trigger warnings that I've done my best to provide through the link。I mostly had a very good time with this, mainly because of the pace it had and because I enjoy a violent revenge story。 I also found the two main characters interesting - both of them are raging assholes, in more ways than one, but the dynamic between the two of them worked well for me and they provided a solid enough context to some discussions regarding race and life in the south。However, the way the LGBTQIA+ community was utilized in the bones of this story didn't fully work for me。 How these topics were included reminded me a lot of a child proudly sharing new words they've learned, and the overall tone of it was a bit too didactic for me to not roll my eyes repeatedly。 This book is definitely not one for the community, but most likely aimed at the same demographic these fathers in the book would belong to。 In extension of that, the female characters barely get any development on the page, and those two things together made me knock a full star off my rating。So a low four stars for a mostly entertaining book with a few solid shortcomings。 。。。more

Sandly, I had to DNF this at 33 %。 The premise of the book really drew me in at first。 Two fathers trying to avenge their sons murders。 But very soon after starting the book I realized that it was not for me。 The graphic violence, constant depiction of homophobia and misogyny was too much。 I get that it's the point of the book: two imperfect fathers on a mission。 When I hit the 100 page mark and I wasn't really invested in the story nor did I really care who the killer was, I decided it was time Sandly, I had to DNF this at 33 %。 The premise of the book really drew me in at first。 Two fathers trying to avenge their sons murders。 But very soon after starting the book I realized that it was not for me。 The graphic violence, constant depiction of homophobia and misogyny was too much。 I get that it's the point of the book: two imperfect fathers on a mission。 When I hit the 100 page mark and I wasn't really invested in the story nor did I really care who the killer was, I decided it was time to give up。 。。。more

This book was non-stop, nail-biting action。 The author does a great job of making the characters real。 I stayed up past my bedtime to finish。 I really enjoyed it。 This won't be my last S。A。 Crosby book。 This book was non-stop, nail-biting action。 The author does a great job of making the characters real。 I stayed up past my bedtime to finish。 I really enjoyed it。 This won't be my last S。A。 Crosby book。 。。。more

wonderfully put together Loved this book from page 1。 I grew up in Virginia as well and found much authenticity- as well as beauty- in Cosby’s words。

Ahhhhhg。 I love the writing and subject matter。 I hate the disgusting violence and murder and guns。 I kept going to see if anything redeemed itself。 Don’t regret reading but wouldn’t recommend。

When people say a book is gritty, I can kinda picture that feeling。 This book is GRITTY。 Every character is so fleshed out; I don’t know how Crosby did it。 I read this in literally two days because the story unfolded at a movie pace, but unpacked so much story and plot and HEART。 Damn。 I like a lot of books and character development had a lot to do with liking a book, but it’s magic how these characters come to life and just have a soul of their own。 So impressive。 It’s a pretty gruesome book, a When people say a book is gritty, I can kinda picture that feeling。 This book is GRITTY。 Every character is so fleshed out; I don’t know how Crosby did it。 I read this in literally two days because the story unfolded at a movie pace, but unpacked so much story and plot and HEART。 Damn。 I like a lot of books and character development had a lot to do with liking a book, but it’s magic how these characters come to life and just have a soul of their own。 So impressive。 It’s a pretty gruesome book, and I’d consider it more of a gory thriller than the horror book lists I found this on。 Completely worthy of every ounce of praise it has gotten。 。。。more

Excellent book。 A little graphic and dark, but still a great story and I loved Ike & Buddy Lee。 If you like shoot'em up with lots of action - this is for you。 I also enjoyed that the men were trying their best to change。 I can definitely see this made into a movie。 Highly Recommended。 Excellent book。 A little graphic and dark, but still a great story and I loved Ike & Buddy Lee。 If you like shoot'em up with lots of action - this is for you。 I also enjoyed that the men were trying their best to change。 I can definitely see this made into a movie。 Highly Recommended。 。。。more

I found this book to be somewhat entertaining, but certainly not great。 I found the main characters - two ex-cons with gay sons, to be not entirely plausible, and I also felt that the plot was a little overwrought in places, and the reactions of the characters to various actions weren't convincing either。 I also felt like the ending wasn't plausible - you set off a bomb and the police don't show up?! Also, I would warn anyone who minds graphic language and violence that they might want to stay a I found this book to be somewhat entertaining, but certainly not great。 I found the main characters - two ex-cons with gay sons, to be not entirely plausible, and I also felt that the plot was a little overwrought in places, and the reactions of the characters to various actions weren't convincing either。 I also felt like the ending wasn't plausible - you set off a bomb and the police don't show up?! More like 2。5 stars but as a South Side Richmond, VA native, I have to admit I enjoyed this。 You can see the “reveal” coming from a mile away and most of the characters are two-dimensional to the point of parody。 But hackneyed as many of the tropes and characters are, I have to admit I was won over by the portrayal of Ike and Buddy Lee’s tenuous, awkwardly budding friendship。 Good beach read。

Good story and very appropriate for our times。。。but。。。it was just too tough to read。 I found myself feeling angry and depressed whenever I picked up this book。 I finally put it down。 Maybe someday I'll be able to stomach a story like this。 Good story and very appropriate for our times。。。but。。。it was just too tough to read。 I found myself feeling angry and depressed whenever I picked up this book。 I finally put it down。 Maybe someday I'll be able to stomach a story like this。 。。。more

Sons of Anarchy meets LGBTQ+。 A story of two ex con dads mourning the loss of their sons, who were victims of a hate crime。 Together these dads take justice into their own hands, and their past life quickly takes over。 Motorcycle gangs, torture, guns, beatings, stabs, etc。 A fast pace “who done it”, but just a bit too much violence for me。 ALOT of racism, homophobia, and slurs。 Most of this story centers around how poorly the people of the LGTBQ+ people are treated, but doesn’t address really ch Sons of Anarchy meets LGBTQ+。 A story of two ex con dads mourning the loss of their sons, who were victims of a hate crime。 Together these dads take justice into their own hands, and their past life quickly takes over。 Motorcycle gangs, torture, guns, beatings, stabs, etc。 A fast pace “who done it”, but just a bit too much violence for me。 ALOT of racism, homophobia, and slurs。 Most of this story centers around how poorly the people of the LGTBQ+ people are treated, but doesn’t address really changing that until the end of the book and even then it is very glazed over。 。。。more

4。7 // If I weren’t so distracted by life, I would’ve finished this in one sitting。 Fast paced with a lot of substance and flawed, human characters。 Cosby does an excellent job of bringing an ever-changing but also ever-resistant southeast Virginia and Richmond to life in a realistic manner。

This is easily one of my favorite fiction books I've read this year。 It didn't take long for me to get into the book, and once it was clear where the plot was going, I couldn't put down this book。 A gay couple is mysteriously murdered, and the fathers - Ike and Buddy Lee - are seeking vengeance on the killers who brutally assassinated their sons。 While the book has the typical action-packed thrill of a mobster-themed novel, it is also rooted in the gripping struggle of two fathers coming to term This is easily one of my favorite fiction books I've read this year。 It didn't take long for me to get into the book, and once it was clear where the plot was going, I couldn't put down this book。 A gay couple is mysteriously murdered, and the fathers - Ike and Buddy Lee - are seeking vengeance on the killers who brutally assassinated their sons。 While the book has the typical action-packed thrill of a mobster-themed novel, it is also rooted in the gripping struggle of two fathers coming to terms with the hatred and hypocrisy surrounding how they fathered their gay sons。 S。A。 Crosby's prowess as a writer was evident throughout the book, and I thoroughly enjoyed how the playful banter between Ike and Buddy Lee would transition into an introspective dialogue on the difficulties surrounding LGBTQ issues。 Can't wait to read his other books as well。 。。。more

Not what I was expecting and not my typical type of book but I was so immersed in the plot! Especially the second half。 Some of the violence was a little gratuitous for me but otherwise a good read。

Two young, married, gay men get killed and their dads go on a rampage because they feel (are) guilty for not accepting their sons lifestyles。The details make for an interesting if somewhat melodramatic bloody read。
